Run 10biForthOS

A faithful simulation: the real machine code and memory addresses, the real 0x01 <byte> … 0x00 serial protocol, animated. The genuine CPU boot runs in QEMU on your machine via ./boot; this is the shareable teaching view — it can't go blank.

CPU state

16-bit real mode paging: off
physical = (segment << 4) + offset · registers are illustrative; bytes & addresses are real

execute buffer fills one byte per 01<byte> as the program compiles
chat over the wire · Morpheus

The OS already speaks over a serial line (COM1). morpheus.asm reads your keypresses with BIOS int 0x14 and replies on screen — a guided conversation across the wire. This panel simulates that link so you can try it here.

What’s real, what’s simulated. The bytes, the int 0x14 read loop and morpheus.asm (368 bytes) are real and on disk. The replies here are scripted in the page. A real chat needs three things this page stands in for: a socket (the TCP port QEMU opens on 44444), a server (morpheus.asm, reading the wire), and a client (nc localhost 44444, your end). Wire those three together and the conversation is live metal.
